I am an artist who works with mixed media, but with a focus on wood sculpture. My sculptures are contemporary, inspired by human and organic form to create biomorphic shapes. Thus, the pieces are nonrepresentative, created from a memory, a thought or emotion.
Growing up in Australia I developed an appreciation of nature and was inspired by the organic shapes nature presented. My appreciation for the human form was influenced by my mother who designed and made wedding dresses.
I choose to use recycled, off-cuts of hardwood, primarily walnut, cherry and mahogany and found driftwood. Both styles force my imagination to be challenged to create pieces that are balanced and calming on the eye with an emphasis on shape and line. No two pieces will ever be the same, and no two interpretations will be the same.
My sculptures are designed to be self standing, small enough to be moved to different locations in your home. The pieces are finished to be tactile, to feel the flow of the rounded shape of the sculpture.
